The original idea for the chair was to optimize production by using leftover leather strips from the manufacturing of other leather furniture. However, this idea was rejected due to the inconsistency of the leather strips, and today only the finest leather strips are used. The low-back version of the PK20 is part of the permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
