Ankara Office Tower

Ankara Office Tower

Ankara Office Tower

Ankara Office Tower is a fourteen-story office building located in Ankara, serving local and international high-tech companies that collaborate with leading universities and research institutes in the country’s capital. Urbanistically, the project plays an important role in bringing together a transitional corridor, a pedestrian underpass, an emerging mixed-use neighborhood, and new commercial areas in a rapidly developing district west of Ankara’s old city center. In response, the building is set back from the highway with a buffer zone created by a bamboo grove, forming a livable urban garden and providing a critical pedestrian connection between neighboring districts and the transportation axis.

The tower’s innovative cladding system maximizes year-round operational efficiency by using horizontal exterior façade fins with variable profiles. As the façade’s slender, curved profiles wrap around the tower, they shift direction and create a texture that changes depending on the viewer’s perspective. The structure’s curtain wall incorporates interior wooden shading elements that allow users to individually control daylight within their workspaces. The result is a responsive and kinetic façade system that meets office needs, inspires the city’s new and expanding district, enhances the building’s architectural impact, and remains environmentally conscious. As one moves throughout the day and around the building, this innovative wall assembly creates a transformative effect that draws the observer in and evokes curiosity. The sculptural exterior fins form different patterns depending on the sun’s position and the pedestrian’s viewpoint. As the wooden shutters are opened and closed according to user needs, the tower itself appears either permeable or reflective, revealing the distribution of use and activity within.
