After opening its Milan store, Starbucks has once again made waves with a striking and innovative design featuring 29 white shipping containers designed by Kengo Kuma. The design transforms the company's coffee drinks into a completely different atmosphere.
Starbucks Taiwan, the company's first location in the Asia-Pacific region, consists of 29 white shipping containers arranged in a stacked formation. Inside the containers, a 320-square-meter area features various intimate and comfortable spaces. Kengo Kuma's vision follows an existing trend in Starbucks store designs.
The company has opened over 40 coffee shops using shipping containers as the main building block. Kuma's design uses a series of skylights and single-glazed windows to let light filter into the structure, creating a pleasant livable space for customers to enjoy their Starbucks beverages.
The use of shipping containers has become a popular architectural trend, emphasizing the importance of reducing and reusing industrial waste and materials. Although this is the first time Kuma has used containers, Starbucks has 45 container-designed stores worldwide.
