The Renovated Brussels Brodzki Building for Fosbury & Sons

The Renovated Brussels Brodzki Building for Fosbury & Sons

The old building, designed by Constantin Brodzki, is a unique concrete structure built in the late 1970s. Fosbury & Sons, the co-working company founded by Stijn Geeraets, Maarten Van Goold, and Serge Hannecart, has taken over the 7,000 square meters of the building. Formerly the headquarters of the cement company CBR, the Brodzki building features a distinctive facade design with 756 oval windows in curved concrete panels. The restoration project focused on making the interior feel more like an office. Geeraets began his work by removing some existing walls to create more open space. The building's character, history, extraordinary architecture, and the spirit of the era in which it was built fit perfectly into the project. "The building has exceptional architecture and is also highly functional," his words help form an idea about the progress of the project.

The building occupies an area near Brussels' main street, Louise Louise, and the Sonian Forest. Before World War II, Brodzki, who had moved to Belgium, designed the original interior in collaboration with Belgian furniture designer and interior architect Jules Wabbel. Fosbury & Sons commissioned the local interior design company Going East to restructure this interior, which had been previously worked on. While some original features have been preserved, there are also distinct contrasts between the old and new additions. A range of custom-made elements were produced as part of the design, including marble tables, a chandelier-like lighting fixture above the original curve, a central concrete staircase, and wooden furniture. Michael Mertens, another founding partner of Going East, says, "The challenge here was to make each floor as special as the last." Fosbury & Sons Boitsfort, with its open lobby and bar on the ground floor, 15 meeting rooms, a 75-seat auditorium, private office spaces, shared office areas, and other co-working spaces, now has the capacity to accommodate 600 employees.
